Hi there..every now and then, a movie comes along that makes you think at a deeper level. Recently I attended a fund raiser for a friend with cancer. We raised around $3,500. A major draw card was the movie called 'What the Bleep?'. It fits perfectly into the ideals behind staying 'On Track'. But before I spill the beans on that story, here's a message hot off my unconscious press..

The dream that woke me up
|
I woke this morning with a start. Something important had occurred during my dreamtime and I wanted to recapture it. Slowly parts of the dream came together and, like a jigsaw puzzle, finally presented itself to me. Here is the abbreviated version.
I had been in a deep water race, competing with ocean going yachts, dinghies and sail boarders. It was quite a varied collection of sea goers! I was on a surfboard and I remember the ride being very exhilarating. The race ended for the day and we gathered for dinner. I wanted a place amongst the 'social action' so I reserved a chair and went for a shower. On my return my seat had been claimed by someone I thought to be a friend. My requests for my chair were strongly rebuffed and I was pretty annoyed. Seeing my efforts were not working I went to get another chair close by. This was also taken from me from the same person! Feeling very revengeful and angry, I said some words that normally don't leave my mouth. I swore vengeance! After rejecting a child's chair and a glass chair as unsuitable (I'll do the self psychoanalysis later today!) I ended up on a bench seat. I least I thought I was in a good place, roughly in the middle of the table. To my dismay, other people sat at the end and I was slowly pushed further away from the 'social action'.
Now previously in this dream cycle, I had discovered some secrets to spoken language wrapped up in mathematical language. To my knowledge no-one had yet uncovered these secrets and it was a very exciting prospect to be able to share what I had learned. But I had no-one with whom to discuss my findings. Flash back to the dinner table.
Here I was being shunted further down the end of the table towards a group of nerdy, uninteresting looking people, who looked like they only ventured out once every decade or so. But we slowly struck up a conversation and to my surprise and absolute delight, they had also been exploring language in the same way I had! I felt I had found long lost friends. On a napkin, we quickly created the outline of an international magazine as a way of getting the work out there. The excited buzz from our end of the table started to attract attention from the others. Not that we cared - we were on fire! Somewhere in the dream I remember thinking how grateful I was that I didn't get the original chair I had wanted. If I had I probably wouldn't be enjoying the conversation and making the connections I was now. I also mentally apologized for my vengeful behaviour to the person who 'stole' my chair.
There were several messages for me in that dream but the one that stood out was that while sometimes we don't always get what we want, we get exactly what we need. This is especially true when we are connected to our purpose. So if someone takes your chair, know that a more important place is just waiting for you.

The buzz about 'What the bleep?'
|
| If you like to have your imagination stirred or your ideas about what really makes our world tick shaken, then you'll probably be intrigued by 'What the Bleep?' Your teenager will love the graphics and your maiden aunt will blush at the wedding scenes. You may pick up some ideas on getting more from your sales team or managing weight issues. And you will probably stop insulting your body. Hmmm. Intrigued yet? For some, the ideas will be new and for others a refreshing reminder of what we know works. This multi award winning documentary has set new records around the world and having seen it, I wondered how come it has taken so long for a movie like this to be made. It has been released recently in Australia and you can find where to see it at www.whatthebleep.com.au
Without spoiling the movie, it explores the connections between mind, emotions and the world we live in. Excellent graphics show us the workings of the mind and the storyline is one that most can relate to. However, it was the narratives from scientists, mystics, mathematicians and others that I really enjoyed, especially since we don't know their identities and backgrounds until the credits roll. Can you spot the mystic from the scientist?
The movie also points to some simple yet profound ways we can change our thinking.
You will probably hear more about this movie and while it probably won't be on your local BCC cinema, the art house theatres may well be showing it. |
