'It takes humility to seek feedback, wisdom to understand it, analyze it, and appropriately act on it.'
--Stephen R. Covey

  Issue #30
February 2007

Ahhh. Peace has returned to our beach! Yes, we know we live in a special place on the Coast, and others will want to play in the same sandpit as us, and we should 'share like good little kids' - but I always sigh (OK, selfishly) with relief when the holidays are over and everyone has gone back home. It means we don't have to fight for a parking space and calm returns to our slice of heaven. What about you? Do you need a holiday after the holiday? Are you happy to get into the buzz of work? Are you starting with a clean slate, refreshed and ready to go? The following thoughts may be relevant...

How to start afresh in a New Year

I recently heard the question, 'Are you carrying luggage or baggage?' from trainer and author Michael Oliver. 'Luggage' refers to the lessons learned from any experience and 'baggage' to negative unfinished business.

A coaching client was carrying some heavy baggage and needed to turn it into 'luggage' so he could move on in life. Here's a brief snapshot of what we did together. I asked him to:

1. List all his achievements and victories from 2006
2. Note down any 'special moments'
3. List any disappointments, hurts or pain (from his external world or within himself)
4. Note any recurring patterns - good or bad.

This provided us with the basic information to tell us, 'What's working and what needs to be changed?'
We then went through an exercise and established his core values. With his core values in mind, he worked out what was worth keeping (luggage) and what was worth dropping (baggage). This lead to an invalauble conversation about forgiveness, which proved very timely and profound. He can now start 2007 with a clean slate, a happy heart and a clearer mind!

You can apply the same process yourself and work with your own coach, partner, spouse or friends to ensure a more productive and happy year. And then this time next year, you will notice more special moments than disappointments!

What are you putting up with? And at what cost?

We all tolerate and put up with things. Leaky taps, unfiled papers, messy garage/wardrobe, unsent emails, half-finished renovations, old carpet that needs replacing, a slow computer, unfriendly neighbours, no time for yourself, lack of self discipline, unwanted telemarketing calls just when you are about to have dinner... The list can seem endless once you start thinking about it.

The late Thomas Leonard, (he was instrumental in getting the coaching industry up and running) was always encouraging people to stop tolerating small (and big) things. Why? He knew that each and every thing we tolerate, leaks energy from us at some level. That's why we feel so good when we finally clean up the garage/wardrobe/office/cupboards etc. We feel complete when we 'complete'. And for some personality types, completing tasks is even more important. They feel distinctly uncomfortable with 'loose ends'. Perhaps you know what I mean?

To help you clean up your life, click here for details of the 'Clean Up Program'. It offers an opportunity to experience coaching at a very affordable investment and gives you a support system while you clean up a part of your life. And if you register during February, a friend or colleague can do the same program for FREE. Just nominate your friend's name, when you speak to me and they can get the same benefits as you. Please remember this offer is for February only - so- who do you know with a messy garage, office or wardrobe?!

Kick start 2007!

The kids are back at school, work is rolling on and we are into another year. A friend mentioned that this year was going to be great - because last year was so terrible! She felt it was her turn to 'be lucky'. I'm personally not a great believer in 'luck' but if that helps her, then so be it. Seems to me, the more prepared you are the more 'luck' has a chance to help you along. Have you decided what kind of year it will be yet? Have you planned what you want? Let me offer you some help in planning a very successful 2007.

First click here to download my free ebook on Goal Setting. It's easy to read but please email me if you have any questions on the process.

If you want a little more help to get going, send me an email with '2007' in the subject line. The first 15 people who do so can get 30 minutes of free coaching time with me. Why am I doing this? It's simple - I have enjoyed crucial assistance at certain times in my life that have helped enormously - and I know the power of coaching. And it also gets 15 more people excited about what I do... and you never know where that can lead to! By the way - there are NO strings to this offer. You are not expected to sign up for future coaching or buy anything. Of course, if you like what we do together - please do tell others!

Guard your Credit Card
A friend just sent me a warning about nasty new ways scamsters get unauthorized access to your Credit Card. My favourite way to check out bogus time waster warnings is with www.snopes.com. So when I checked out my friend's warning, it was true. Check here for yourself....and bookmark the site for future use!
Tibet in 2008?

If Tibet fascinates you enough to get your backpack from out of the dark recesses of your garage, then you may be interested in a trip organized by a friend of mine. The trek (4WD and yak) takes us from Lhasa to Katmandu and includes 3 days at the sacred Mount Kailash. There is too much to talk about here but if you want me to send you an email brochure, simply put 'Tibet' in the subject line and I'll pass on the information. Dates are May 22nd to June 15th 2008. We're up for it - are you?
