Hello -the recent rain here in S.E. Queensland has been very welcome...by most anyway. However the dams haven't received as much as we would like considering how much it has rained. Someone suggested moving the dams to the other side of the hill where the grass is greener. Hmmmm...
It reminded me of an eternal question............

We had been looking forward to Steve and Laura's wedding for some time. It was to held at a beautiful chapel with an equally stunning garden setting and they had, no doubt, worked out where to take the best photos. While we had been experiencing clear, sunny days for months previously, that morning we woke to rainy skies and gathering winds. My first thought was that they would be disappointed that the skies chose that day to pour down! I discovered the same thought seemed to be going through several other guests' minds. However at the reception, Steve and Laura expressed the view that what fitting weather the day had bought. Their wedding would be forever linked with drought breaking rains, new life, fresh hope! What a great start to a new era for them.
Around the same time I was speaking with a friend who couldn't finish off some outside work on a house. 'Guess I 'll have to take this time out to rest!, he said. While the inconvenience of rain had stopped him from working, at least he took the time out to take time out.
Later that week I was speaking with long time friend, Danny who charters boats around the Brisbane coastal area. The weather had forced him inside - so there was no chartering business happening that day. But he was happily getting to some boat repairs and improvements he had wanted to do for some time.
I'm sure you're getting the picture - it is never the weather on the outside that counts.

| Men Wot Sing are on YouTube! |
The story around the a' Cappella group I sing with, 'Men Wot Sing', continues. We were recently invited to sing at a choir festival in Blackheath in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney. We were somewhat different from most of the other groups (all male groups are a little rare...and perhaps our repertoire and comic antics tend to place us in the 'unusual category'). There was some trepidation amongst the group as we weren't 100% sure that all our songs would go down well. In particular, we were concerned about a song entitled, "Farewell Johnny Howard". The lyrics were written by one of our guys and depending on which side of politics you sit, you might either love or hate us. You can get a taste of what we do by visiting us on YouTube. Here is the link.
However, towards the end of the song we figured we were traveling OK... but the second last line got us the response we were hoping for... and then we knew we were 'home and hosed'. Whistles, stamping of feet and general mayhem followed. We received a spontaneous standing ovation at the end of our set and gave two encores. Later that night we joined some members of the audience and all trooped down to the local pub and sang some of our favourites til they finally closed the bar and ordered us out! What a HOOT we had! If you are wondering what the second last line was, go over to the link above. And please...DO SEND the links to friends, family and even your next door neighbour! Of course, you can vote, comment and save the video to your 'favourites'. All this will help to spread the word - and yes, you've guessed it - we'd love to get our antics on TV!
Now, you don't have to wait til next year or go to the Blue Mountains to see us.
There will be more deep and meaningful songs and ribald antics, at the Tweed Civic Centre, Tweed Heads at 2.00pm on Sunday December 9th at our fundraising event (we're off to tour the north island of New Zealand in May 2008 & need to raise our lunch money...and then some!). Please tell everyone you know and book early. Email me and I'll send you more info and contacts for bookings. You'll be thrilled - even if a' cappella is not something you would normally listen to...you might just become hooked!
PS Our muscial director has just posted another of our favourite songs on YouTube. Here's the link. You can hear a woman near the camera in hysterics! Again - please pass this on! Thanks
