" There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find ways
in which you yourself have altered" Nelson Mandela
  Issue #9
January 2005

Hi there...it seems the excitement and rush of Christmas and the New Year Celebrations went so fast. My most exciting event was watching my 14 year old daughter as she landed safely, beaming from ear to ear, after her first tandem sky dive. I was impressed. She didn't scare herself and was immediately hooked to the sport. We already have feedback that her actions have inspired a few adults to explore stretching some limits and take a leap into uncharted territory.
And you? I hope your holiday season was safe and happy and that you have effortlessly changed gears into work mode. Which leads me to the following question

Where are you headed this year?

In Lewis Carroll's ‘Alice in Wonderland', Alice asked the Cheshire cat:
'Which of these roads should I take?'
The cat asked,'Where do you want to get to?'
Alice said,'I don't really care much where.'
The cat responded 'Then it doesn't matter. Any road will get you there.'

It is at this particular time of year that our thoughts go to the future. What do we want to experience and create? How do we want this year to be different or the same? What lessons have we learned and which are still with us?
Some time ago, a new client (I'll call him John) was in a dilemma because he could not make up his mind. There seemed to be too many choices and options. He was standing at 'possibility junction' and was immobilized by inaction. For John it was a common frustrating situation. After discussing the issues for awhile it became apparent to both of us that simplifying his life would relieve much of his stress and add focus to his activities. On a piece of paper he mapped out his values, where he felt he was at in his life and what he felt he would be most happy achieving. An hour later he was adding detail to the big picture. John was on his way.

How about you? Do you have clear idea of your direction for 2005? Have you taken the time to re-assess where you are in your life, your values and aspirations? It will make the life of the Cheshire cat so much easier.
